VMware, CENIC Collaborate to Support Research and Education in California

Universities, schools, libraries, and other cultural, scientific, and arts organizations in the CENIC community can now leverage VMware solutions to improve security, reduce costs, and simplify information access through a software-defined approach.

Sunesys Awarded the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award for Corporate Partnership

In recognition of their work to provide high-speed, cost-effective network connections for CENIC and its members, and their efforts in collaboration with CENIC and UCSC, to develop a successful application for California Advanced Services Funding to construct new fiber in the Salinas Valley, CENIC has selected Sunesys, a Crown Castle Company, and Alan Katz, Vice President who, along with his team, led these efforts, as the recipients of the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award for Corporate Partnership.

Wide-Area Visualization Environment (WAVE) System at UC Merced Awarded the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award

The Wide-Area Visualization Environment (WAVE) at UC Merced is one of many projects enabled by the Pacific Research Platform. This massive display, consisting of twenty 4k resolution screens, provides student and faculty researchers at UC Merced to work with the cutting-edge of virtual reality hardware. WAVE is an exciting example of a tool that can reduce the gap between data collection and interpretation and the dissemination of that data to researchers and the public.

In recognition of work to expand the diversity of the SCinet volunteer staff and to provide professional development opportunities to highly qualified women in the field of networking, the Women in IT Networking at SC (WINS) program has been selected by CENIC as a recipient of the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award for Experimental Applications. Project members being recognized include Wendy Huntoon (KINBER), Marla Meehl (UCAR), and Kate Petersen Mace, Lauren Rotman, and Jason Zurawski (ESnet).

California Community Colleges Technology Center Awarded the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award

In recognition of their work to develop a system-wide federated identity for students across the 113 California Community Colleges, the California Community Colleges Technology Center has been selected by CENIC as a recipient of the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award. Individuals named in the award include Tim Calhoon, Executive Director; Lou Delzompo, Chief Technology Officer; Patricia Donohue, Product Manager; Roberto Fuentes, Supervisor, Support Services; and Jeff Holden, Chief Information Security Officer.

Tom DeFanti Awarded Innovations In Networking Award for Outstanding Individual Contributions

In recognition of his work to develop next generation networks, advance the mission of Calit2, and shape collaborations across organizations, CENIC recognizes Tom DeFanti, an internationally recognized pioneer in visualization and virtual reality technologies at Calit2, University of California San Diego, as the recipient of the 2017 Innovations in Networking Award for Outstanding Individual Contributions.
